Summer Learning Programs in the Philippines

Both the Department of Education and the Department of Labor and Employment came up with meaningful summer programs designed to provide alternative source of learning and income for the youth.

The Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Summer Program

Organized by the Department of Education, ADM is a summer class wherein lessons are being delivered in an alternative mode and uses a friendly approach in teaching. The program aims to provide another learning channel to reach out specifically to out-of-school youths.

Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC shares, “We are calling on children and youth who have not been to school to attend this summer class which was specifically designed for them. This caters to all youths regardless of gender, physical, intellectual, social condition, and linguistic background, including high school drop-outs.”

Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES)

Spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), this is a yearly summer employment program that aims to encourage students to make their vacation productive by working during summer. This program is open only to students who are enrolled this school year or has intention to enroll next school year.

Meant to provide not only learning opportunities but also financial reward, “Qualified applicants will be employed for forty days and will be paid minimum wage, 60% of which will be paid by DepEd and 40% by DOLE.  DepEd SPES will also be given an additional daily allowance on top of their salaries.”
