Mother: The Most Wonderful Gift That God Gave Me

Mariane Daphne Tapayan
Student, Misamis Occidental National High School

There many times I felt jealous and insecure with people who have expensive possessions which I don’t have. I came from a poor family and I can’t afford to have those. So, I just have to look on those beautiful materials owned by my classmates.

There is one afternoon, I got home and felt tired from hiking. I saw my mother on the balcony with her sewing machine making a blouse. After she was done, she gave me the blouse and I tried it on. I am happy and I looked at my mother. Then, I realize that I have the answer to the question. I realize that I already have the gift that no one could have. The most wonderful gift that God gave me and that is my mother.

Through the times that I suffered, fell down, and cry, she was there for me. She raised me up well. She lifted me up to reach my dreams and goals in life. She is my strength and courage. She brings me joy and happiness in this world. I am so blessed because God gave me a mother who is understanding, gentle, strong, lovable, and most of all, beautiful.

No jewelry can ever compare to my mother. Because for me, she’s the most valuable treasure. Death may separate my mother from me but not my love for her.
