Résumé Basics and Resources

A résumé is a brief yet very important communication tool. It lets a human resources officer know your qualifications immediately, and why the company should hire you.

That’s why a résumé should not just be a list of personal data and work experiences. It should be your very own professional sales brochure!

A résumé should consist of:

  • Identification - your name, address and complete contact details
  • Education - tertiary degrees, with the most recent on top
  • Work experience - include job title, your responsibilities, and date of tenure.
  • Certification - certificates and endorsements with the dates when they were given
  • Additional:
  • Honors and activities - impressive honors, scholarships or achievement awards
  • Special skills - proficiency in language/s, and  in computer programs to enhance instruction
  • Trainings/Seminars - special workshops or seminars you’ve attended
  • Professional memberships - professional associations you belong to, also indicate any leadership positions or committee memberships

Your résumé should highlight your uniqueness as a teacher, or the positive trends you have started in the classroom. If you have no formal teaching experience, include your practicum hours, volunteer works, student teaching experiences, and Bible School mornings.

Did you develop any technique to teach a certain lesson? Were you a major part of a special event in the school? Include those too!

Just remember to make your résumé look professional. Use neutral paper color and professional looking fonts.
