E-libraries have revolutionized how we retrieve information. With them, useful, relevant and up-to-date information are placed at your disposal, withstanding any school’s lack of information resources. As teachers, it is important for you to be familiar with some of the more comprehensive e-libraries available on the Internet.

Here’s a list of some useful e-libraries you can use to expand and update your knowledge:

  • ibiblio
  • ibiblio is run by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest WWW Internet websites in the world. It offers free downloads of e-books and journals on science, mathematics, cultural studies, literature and music. The site also offers free software download and radio streaming.   • Bookyards
  • Bookyards’ collection of books range from classic works like Sir Isaac Newton’s Principles of Mathematics to technical books like Robert Read’s How To Be a Programmer to Joseph Devlin's "How to Speak and Write Correctly." There are currently 10,180 books available for download on the website.

  • The Electronic Library of Mathematics

  • The oldest digital library, Project Gutenberg offers more than 18,000 ebooks in different languages. Now on its 35th year, the site offers users a wide array of collection that range from classic novels like Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray to Leo Tolstoy's On the Significance of Science and Art.

  • Internet Archive
  • Internet Archive is a collection, of digital books, movies, audio recordings, software and World Wide Web "snapshots." It currently has 30,378 text files in its collection. Visit the site at http://www.archive.org.
