Pampanga schools now enjoy Internet connectivity via WiMax
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo cuts the ceremonial ribbon leading to the SMART Teachers’ Learning Resource Center at the Paguiruan High School in Floridablanca, Pampanga to formally welcome the public school into the Smart Schools Program (SSP) of Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART). Paguiruan and San Basilio High School are the first two SSP schools that enjoy Internet access via WiMax. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has granted SMART the additional frequency to deploy WiMax services in the country, in support of the telco’s thrust to cover unserved areas and provide Internet connectivity to places that were once inaccessible. WiMax or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access is a telecommunications technology that enables high-speed wireless Internet access to a wider area.
