To prepare its students for the 2nd Doon Po Sa Amin (DPSA) Learning Challenge, the Barobo National High School recently conducted a 4-day seminar-workshop on community-based research, digital photography and editing, and website development.
The seminar-workshop is an echo of the Web-based Community Mapping Tools Training which was conducted by the Smart Schools Program in May 2008.
Barobo NHS DPSA Moderator Alex Mistula introduced the concept and mechanics of DPSA to the student-researchers, while DPSA teacher-coach Romulo Morata discussed research and community mapping methodologies. DPSA teacher-coach Ariadne Cuares then taught the participants the principles and techniques in data gathering.
The second day of the workshop included modules on data analysis and presentation, writing for Web (discussed by Mrs. Liza Guingguing), digital photography, and photo editing. The remaining 2 days of the workshop were spent on web design and development. At the end of the seminar-workshop, the student-researchers were able to generate content and create their own websites.
Barobo NHS received the Best in Photos award in the 1st DPSA Learning Challenge for its entry, “Barobo ni Tatay.” Representatives of the school participated in the 1st DPSA awarding ceremonies held in SM Megatrade Hall last March 14, where they exhibited the school’s entry.
