Tabuk National High School
In a far-flung area of the Cordillera, lies the Province of Kalinga which cradles in its bosom the Tabuk National High School, a shining star in the North. Kalinga comprises of eight municipalities namely Tinglayan, Tabudan, Pasil, Lubuagan, Pinukpuk, Rizal, Balbalan and Tabuk, the latter being the commercial and educational center of the province.

With SSP, TNHS is now more capable of providing quality education
Tabuk National High School, with a total land area of 32,233 sq. meters and is formerly named Kalinga Apayao Provincial High School, is now on its 39th year of advocating quality education to 3,205 enrollees every year. It is located at the heart of Poblacion, Tabuk, Kalinga. The school was founded and headed by Mr. Augusto Alejandrino, a District Supervisor. The school was nationalized on June 1973 with Mrs. Joaquina C. Falgui as the appointed principal followed by Mrs. Purificacion E. Domingo, Mrs. Aurora E. Plan and at present by Dr. Rodolfo C. Ballog. The school has 72 teachers and 20 administrative and support staff. There are 2 building annexes: New Tanglag and Uma Lubuagan which is considered as the center of curricular and co-curricular activities.
The school provides technical education with the use of computers provided by the Personal Computer for Public Schools (PCPS) program from the Congressional fund of Hon. Lawrence Wacnang, and at present, being one of the recipients of Smart Schools Program, the TNHS students enjoy 10 computer units connected to Internet. With all these providence, the school is now capable of offering the best education in town.
Smart Schools Program opens the horizon of education through the use of Internet. For sure, this incoming School Year will bring the school benchmark a higher competence in computer education for its students, and help make teachers as the agents of change, initiators of teaching methods, leaders in the integration of technology and computer in academic learning, and promoters of teaching profession status.
The biggest contribution provided by the Smart Schools Program is the creation of a more complete environment for learning through Internet surfing. Things about nature, people, places and all kinds of information you wish to know are now on hand. The hands-on experiences draw further the intellectual abilities of the users by helping them explore and grow.
Furthermore, the school, as a computerized learning center, becomes a classroom, a library for all, and a place for trainings. Interactive learning was improved -- one can now watch, listen, talk or write in relation to the lesson through the computer. For example, one can record his or her voice. Through interconnectivity, one can contact other students through e-mail. One can access millions of information on any subject. Through computer simulations, one can fly over geographical regions, tour cities and meet fictional characters, discover chemical reactions and can converse with someone in a foreign country. Through greater creativity, students can expand their ideas by exploring the Internet.
To maintain and sustain the needs of the computer laboratory, the school sets a minimal amount to be paid by all computer users through the Parent Teachers and Community Association. Walk-in Internet users also pay for the same amount. All of these are accounted for the improvement and sustenance of the computer laboratory.
Quality education is a high goal to achieve. We are hoping for a bigger budget for education this year so we can resolve the perennial problems of basic education by having enough facilities. Much yet has to be done in this area. But by improving teaching and producing students who can respond to a rapidly changing world which is information-driven and technology-driven, and by encouraging students to put more value to our resources and exploit opportunities that can contribute to the development of the town, province, region, country and the world, quality education can be achieved.
Smart Schools Program is a vehicle for a peaceful revolution to bring about a better Philippines and a globally competitive Pilipino.
